In Brewster you can connect to the Nickerson State Park trail network from the bike path at around mile 11.6 about 2.3 miles below the trail midpoint. The main Cape Cod Rail Trail heads north following the curve of Cape Cod Bay out to South Wellfleet. It travels through a tranquil wooded environment to where it ends at Chatham Center. Heading east from the bike rotary takes you onto the 6 mile paved Old Colony rail Trail. Lock your bikes up here and enjoy stroll along part or all of the 2.7 mile walking trail that winds through this special natural area. This also serves as Bike Trailhead Parking for the William & Barbara Hacker Wildlife Sanctuary. You'll find signs pointing the way, picnic tables, and a bike rack. You'll see cyclists of all ages and ability levels on the trail. It's relatively flat with few hills and well-marked auto crossings. The paved and well-maintained rail trail is a popular bike touring route. The Cape Cod Rail Trail follows the abandoned railbed of the Old Colony Railroad through the towns of Yarmouth, Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans and Eastham ending at the easternmost trailhead in South Wellfleet, MA.
